What is a Registered Agent

What is a Registered Agent
A Registered Agent acts as the legal representative for the Company for Service of Process legal related documents and other State and Government based documents.  Businesses may also at times get served with Garnishments, annual reports, and other legal related documents for the Company. Businesses registered with the Secretary of State will need a Registered Agent to take care of this matter. Law firms or other professionals may also need one for listing on a bar or related professional application. The Registered Agent must have a physical address located within the State in question and be physically able to accept mail and Service of Process legal documents during normal business hours.  To get started:  See National Registered Agent Services.

What does a Registered Agent not do
Unless you have a mail agreement with the Registered Agent, Registered Agents are not responsible for accepting general business mail and their address cannot be listed as your business mailing address on applications or otherwise.  Listing a Registered Agent on applications does not mean you can use that address for your business mailing, advertising and other documents. Registered Agents may send documents back to the sender in such case. If you need a business mailing address, in addition to a Registered Agent, in the State in question, we can assist with that request for the states that we service.  See National Registered Agent Services.
